The trail from Vernazza to Monterosso which winds through Cinque Terre National Park takes you through olive groves, and historic terraced vineyards. It is a beautiful (but challenging) hike with incredible, sweeping views of the Ligurian Sea and the villages below. The teal gate perched above the ragged stones almost looked surreal to me. Like a doorway to another world. It made me think about how often the most rewarding parts of a journey come from stepping outside what’s familiar.
